Getting to know you.
To help us prepare for your appointment and ensure that we have the correct information recorded for your artwork, it would be helpful if you could provide as much of the following information as you have available.
Please don't worry if some details are unknown — we can review these together when we meet. Please provide as much information as you are able to and read the information below which explains our process.
If the artwork is currently framed:
During the appointment we can review the existing framing and discuss whether it would be appropriate to remove the artwork from the frame to allow further examination. Any removal from the existing frame will only be undertaken following discussion and agreement.
Condition & Documentation:
If the artwork is removed from its existing frame, Common Room Projects may photograph and document the artwork and its current condition before any further work is undertaken. Where appropriate, we can then consider whether any conservation advice or treatment is recommended before reframing.
Framing Discussion:
During the appointment we can begin exploring the most appropriate presentation for the artwork, including the frame, mount/presentation, depth, glazing and conservation requirements. The final framing specification and costs can then be developed following examination of the artwork.
What happens after the appointment:
There is no requirement for the artwork to remain with Common Room Projects following the initial appointment. If further design, costing or preparation is required, the artwork can either remain with Common Room Projects, subject to the appropriate documentation and agreed insurance value, or return home with you and come back to the studio when we are ready to proceed with the agreed work. We can decide together which approach is most appropriate following the appointment.
