9 Sept – 4 Nov 2023

Born in 1967, Danny Rolph is an internationally renowned artist based in London.

Driven by a unique approach to colour, he produces compositions with attitude and visual dexterity. His works are held in public and private collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC and Tate, London.

In 2022 Danny was the recipient of the Mark Rothko Memorial Trust Award. Established in 1973 but relaunched in 2018, the award invites a select number of artists to reside for a month at the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils, Latvia for intensive art practice, travel experience and opinion exchange.

Mark Rothko (1903-1970) was born in Daugavpils before moving to the USA where he became an expert in Abstract Expressionism and Colour Field painting.

During his time at the Mark Rothko Art Centre, Danny Rolph produced 31 small painted canvases. Originally presented in the studio context in which they were created, Common Room Projects were delighted to re-present the works in the UK one year after they were made.
